Liberal Democrat campaigner Ann Holtom has added her tribute to Councillor Paul Tilsley, following his announcement that he was standing down as leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Birmingham Council. Ann said:
"Paul has been a tower of strength in Birmingham and Liberal politics for well over 40 years. Paul first got elected to the council in 1968 and led the Liberal Democrat group from 2005. When I had to make the hard decision to move over to the Liberal Democrats from Labour, Paul's sympathy and helpfulness, eased a difficult path. He led the council group through the partnership years with the Conservatives with character and compassion and did a great job as Deputy Leader of the Council. These qualities and the way the council performed under Paul's lead are in stark contrast with the shambles of the Labour administration which took over. It's the end of an era and we will miss Paul's authority and good judgment but in Cllr Jon Hunt the Lib Dem group have picked an excellent successor, a leader who is genuinely committed to improving the lives of those he represents in Perry Barr and all the residents of Birmingham."
