Lozells and East Handsworth by-election: latest news

Electors in Lozells and East Handsworth have a by-election on 4 June, the same day as the European elections, to fill a vacancy on Birmingham City Council following the resignation of a Labour councillor.

Liberal Democrat campaigner, Sabirul Islam, is building strongly on the second place he achieved in the last Council elections in the ward last year. The Conservatives finished way down the poll with just 4.5% of the vote and cannot win this time either.

On the doorstep local people are telling Sabirul Islam that it is time for change, as he listens to their concerns.

Sabirul said: "It is coming across loud and clear from everyone that enough is enough. People are fed up with Gordon Brown's mishandling of the economy."

Residents are also saying they are fed up with Labour councillors taking them for granted.

Sabirul said: "In other areas, local residents see Lib Dem councillors working hard for the whole community and keeping touch all year round. Residents can send a clear message on 4th June by voting Lib Dem."

All Liberal Democrat Councillors are committed to serving you, your community and your neighbourhood. Liberal Democrat Councillors will:
